Alta Equipment Group is seeking a full-time Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely calculation, processing, and distribution of the US payrolls. They will also be expected to provide comprehensive customer service to employees at all levels and ensure compliance with all internal policies and procedures. The additional responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to:

  • Processing weekly and biweekly U.S. payroll tasks encompassing hourly pay processing, timekeeping, employee status updates, benefit adjustments, retroactive payment analysis, review of transfers, new hires, terminations, garnishments, and taxable fringe benefits.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of all payroll elements, including wages, deductions, taxes, union policies, and time management.
  • Reviews Human Resources data input into Dayforce and address discrepancies as needed.
  • Upholds compliance with internal protocols and governmental regulations while processing transactions.
  • Enhances expertise in time and attendance management, tax regulations, payroll and union reporting, and Dayforce software through ongoing training and participation in team initiatives.
  • Maintains the documentation flow for payroll adjustments, including clear communication with internal departments to guarantee the accuracy and timeliness of payroll modifications.
  • Ensures proper documentation and record-keeping, ensuring transactions adhere to internal policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates alongside HR and Benefits teams to enhance the accuracy of data transmission to Payroll.
  • Responds to all payroll questions from staff, providers, and managers in a timely and customer service-oriented manner; research issues, provides regular updates on issue resolution until completion; ensures that all questions and resolution are documented.
  • Ensures that all requests for payroll reporting are provided promptly, accurately, and in the format requested.
  • Addresses employee inquiries concerning pay calculations, pay rejects, taxes, deductions, and benefits, acting as a primary point of contact for a wide range of payroll-related concerns within the organization
  • Assists in identifying risks and implementing additional controls as needed.
  • Maintains and protects confidential data with utmost scrutiny, judgment, and care.
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities.
  • Performs additional assignments and special projects as delegated or as required by role responsibilities.
  • Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, Associates degree required.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 3+ years of work experience directly supporting the payroll function.
  • Previous experience with Ceridian/ Dayforce is preferred.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of payroll related laws and policies along with legal requirements and reporting regulations affecting payroll functions.
  • Proficiency in multi-tasking and meeting sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment with a personal commitment to producing the highest quality work and providing extraordinary customer service;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively follow through on assigned projects.
  • Proficient in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software as required while performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, including proper phone etiquette. Ability to speak before groups of people for training purposes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; courteous, professional and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to work effectively with various levels of organizational members and external contacts.
  • Good organizational and time management skills to effectively juggle multiple priorities and time constraints in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Computer Skills - High: HRIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Language Skills - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills - Intermediate: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability - High: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will use sit, use hands, talk/hear;
  • Frequently will reach with hands; Occasionally will stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste/smell.
  • Vision: No special vision requirements.
  • Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift up to 10 pounds; Frequently will lift up to 25 pounds; Occasionally will lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
