36 ECH (15 credits fall/15 credits spring/6 credits summer)

Compensation 45,916.00 - 55,557.00 (commensurate with degree) + up to 10% additional based on years of expeience

Department: College of Computer and Information Technology (CCIT)

Location: Downtown Center - teaching to include face to face day and night classes, and weekend support of student extracurricular activities with the STEM Collegiate High School

Job Description:

As a Data Science Instructor within the College of Computer and Information Technology, you will be responsible for delivering a diverse range of data science courses. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of data science concepts, methodologies, and tools, and have a passion for sharing this knowledge with students. Key Position Information:

  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance.
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner.
  • Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course.

Position Summary:

A CCIT faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, advising and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the college in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the college and continuing professional development.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Constructs classroom materials that support the learning outcomes of the course
  • Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
  • Maintains regular office hours on site
  • Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom
  • Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
  • Serves on college or department committees as needed
  • Supports CCIT extra-curricular activities such as Student Clubs
  • Attends professional development opportunities
  • Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selecting text and constructing a syllabus
  • Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
  • Participate in graduation exercises

Other professional duties may include:

  • Assists with conducting information sessions and providing information about STEM Collegiate High School to potential parents and students.
  • Assists with facilitating new student orientations.
  • Performs instructional leadership functions as assigned by the principal.
  • Assists with the development of a Professional Development plan aligned to school and college strategic initiatives, goals, program evaluation and accreditation.
  • Assists with sponsoring student activities and summer camps

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in computer science, information technology or related IT discipline or Master's degree with 18 credit hours in computer science, information technology or related discipline or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and certifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • The ability to teach a broad range of IT related courses including but not limited to data science, programming/scripting skills, as well as networking.
  • Ability to adapt to varying modalities, schedules and campus locations
  • Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
  • Ability to be innovative, creative, motivated
  • Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others
  • Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently
  • Good organizational skills
  • Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including, computers, and web-based resources such as Desire2Learn/Canvas.
  • Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential

Preferences:

  • Proven experience as a data scientist with expertise in various data science tools and technologies.
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in languages such as Python/R.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Post-secondary/Community College teaching experience.
  • Ability to create an inclusive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
