Title:Manager Utility Accounting & Reporting

POSITION CONCEPT
The Mgr Utility Accounting & Reporting manages utility accounting and reporting activities, including enterprise-wide accounting with a focus on internal financial reporting, reconciliation and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, accounting systems, and master data management for regulated utilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage team members in their completion of financial analysis and reporting, including the production of the FPSC Surveillance Report, Monthly Results Package, O&M Analysis, Earnings Flash and Cash Flash. Manage team members in their completion FERC Form 1 Financial Statements and page. Support the Corporation's Annual Reporting to Shareholders, its Forms 10-K and 10-Q. Support SOX compliance for all finance access requests and bi-annual reviews. Manage team members in their completion of processing bank transactions within SAP (FEBA) to ensure cash is appropriately posted to the G/L and subsidiary ledgers are reconciled.
  • Manage the execution of closeout activities across all SAP affiliates to ensure that monthly results are delivered accurately and timely.
  • Oversee Standard Labor Rates, including Activity Type Price (ATP) maintenance and revaluation of Home Cost Centers to ensure payroll expense is posted accurately in the controlling module of SAP for all companies. Oversee payroll taxation for all companies.
  • Manage team members in the execution and analysis of FERC derivation and ensure accurate FERC reporting across all regulated utilities and the service company. This includes being a key contributor to the leadership and completion of rate case activities.
  • Collaborate with IT-Center of Excellence, PowerPlan and Finance teams, Consultants, and Business Process Owners to identify and implement enterprise-wide process improvements, including communicating events impacting critical SAP processes, FERC accounting guidance, FASB accounting standards, and other significant departmental initiatives and serve as a key member of the SAP Master Data Group. Manage Master Data and Integration for SAP and other financial systems.
  • Manage the research, communication and execution of ad hoc requests, special projects, and unique utility accounting transactions such as storm accounting.
  • Act as liaison to regulated industry accounting focus groups (i.e. ASUG and EEI) and maintain relationships with other accounting professionals in peer companies to help foster FERC accounting consistency for transactions and to respond to industry specific concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from a regionally accredited college/university.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Required: CPA License

Experience

Required:

  • 5 years of financial work experience and/or utility accounting experience in progressively more complex assignments demonstrating proficiency and leadership. Experience must include successful performance in a senior level or lead accountant/accounting analyst role for a minimum of 1 year.

Preferred:

  • Regulated utility accounting experience and audit or internal control related experience.
  • 5 years of financial work experience with regulated utility accounting experience; minimum of 2 years in a senior level or lead accountant/accounting analyst role; prior supervisory experience

Supervisory Experience

  • Required: 3 years management, leadership or project lead experience.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SAP ECC, FERC accounting and reporting, SAP Finance master-data, FERC derivation process and utility financial closeout process;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented with advanced analytical, organizational and communication skills;
  • Works autonomously and performs well in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to professionally engage with senior leadership and internal/external constituents on a frequent basis.
  • Demonstrates exceptional judgement, seeks opportunities for collaboration and innovation, while also utilizing best practices to improve processes; resolves complex problems or where precedent does not exist.
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding other Supervisors, Analysts and Accountants within the department.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with software/systems such as SAP, BPC, Power Plant and Allegro.
  • Advanced knowledge of electric and gas utility operations, utility accounting and regulatory practices preferred.
