HDR's growing Power Delivery Group is hiring a Substation Structural Engineer to join our Florida team in our Orlando, FL office. This position can also be based in our Tampa office.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations
  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, drawings and calculations for structural steel and foundation designs related to substation projects.
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard engineering codes, techniques, and procedures.
  • Participate in and lead civil structures condition assessments and demonstrated report writing ability.
  • Analyze available project information, formulate work processes, and execute work within schedules and budgets.
  • Work independently on projects or with teams on larger projects.
  • Interface with internal and external clients.
  • May perform some project management tasks as related to technical work assignments
  • Field work and some overnight travel will be required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of civil structural experience relating to substation engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to perform structural and civil engineering calculations with minimal supervision
  • PE License
  • Experience performing steel structure retrofit/modification analyses
  • Strong foundation design experience for steel structures and control enclosures
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting geotechnical recommendations
  • Experience developing structural drawings for fabrication
  • Experience with any of these structural analysis programs (such as RISA, REVIT Structural, RAM Structural System, SAP 2000 or StaadPro; Enercalc, MFAD, PLS-Caisson or LPile), MathCAD, and MS Office Suite
  • Civil 3D experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • AutoCAD or Microstation experience is a plus.
