The Clinical Counselor is responsible for providing clinical counseling services to an assigned caseload at a temporary youth's residential facility. Functions as the liaison with the psychologist, other Clinical Counselors, and Case Management. This position is responsible for ensuring contractual requirements and client expectations are met at the temporary residential facility. They will follow all Acuity and contract established policies and procedures, reports to the Lead Licensed Clinical Counselor and under the oversight of the licensed psychologist. This position is temporary, can be located on-site, or it can be assigned to a remote location.

All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles, and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity is recognized.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that all contract and Acuity policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Conducts and documents mental health assessments directly or via tele-psych software for children in care and provides ongoing individual and group counseling in accordance with contract policies and procedures.
  • In the event of time of requests, employee will ensure warm handoff for coverage of caseload assignments to maintain compliance with continuity of care.
  • Ensures all mental health assessments and screenings are completed according to contract policy and compliant with the highest ethical standard of quality client care.
  • Ensures quality care for all children and timely response to their needs, including crisis intervention. This includes writing appropriate risk assessments, responding to crisis in a timely manner, elevating appropriate incidents to the lead licensed clinical counselor, and providing referrals as needed.
  • Screens for human trafficking, assess for child abuse and neglect concerns, and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Write appropriate documentation related to biopsychosocial assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, family sessions, and safety plans as required.
  • Is readily available to collaborate and respond to the lead clinical counselor, assigned case managers, lead case managers, management, and ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement) via case review or other methods to ensure safe and timely release.
  • Attends all required meetings internal and external, including ORR representative requests.
  • Maintain the UAC case file in Acuity's electronic record management system and ORR UAC portal in accordance with contract policies and procedures. Ensure client information and data entry required for statistical reports and shelter metrics is accurate and complete.
  • Reports significant incidents in accordance with contract policies and procedures. Including, following up on all Significant Incident Reports (SIRs) with clear and concise documentation for addendums and initial reporting of incidents.
  • Support the needs of shelter operations to include organizing, assisting, preparing for meetings, filing, record keeping or communicating with other staff, answering the phone, data entry, orientation, travel coordination, and tours.
  • Helps coordinate on-site family meetings, conducts group sessions, understands group dynamics, promotes, and maintains a positive peer group culture.
  • Ensures compliance with state and national mandated reporting requirements.
  • Always provide direct supervision of children in care and maintain line-of-sight.
  • May assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all children, shelter operations, documentation, files, and required record keeping assignments in relation to the population served, customer, and/or employees both on and off work (i.e., no social media postings).
  • Assists department heads to ensure operations in the department are implemented according to policy.
  • Assists in compiling information, handling, and resolving client and customer complaints.
  • Must be able to perform Emergency Behavioral Intervention (EBI) and effectively monitor and execute the shelter's Behavior Management Plan for youth in care (as applicable per, operating procedures, contract and/or cooperative agreements).
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Participates in and supports safety meetings, training, and goals.
  • Assists in the active implementation of company initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA VPP, ISO, Joint Commission, AAAHC, HIPAA and other mandated regulations/standards including non-disclosure agreements.
  • Ensures the safety and security of all children and safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Flexible and willing to travel as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (Speaking, Writing, and Reading)
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science plus five years of clinical employment experience in this area
  • Excellent presentation and oral and written communication skills required.
  • Clean criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Clean Child Abuse and Neglect (CA/N) or Child Protective Services check.
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized and have excellent verbal communication skills.
  • 1 year of clinical counseling experience with adolescents, evidence-based assessment, and clinical treatment.
  • 1 year of experience in a youth residential facility or childcare environment.
  • Proficiency with computer, common office equipment, and highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word, and Outlook 360.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required due to potential shift changes based on operational needs.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in social work (MSW), psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science in which clinical experience is a program requirement.
  • Active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license in any Clinical Counseling field or currently license eligible
  • 1 year of clinical experience with adolescents, evidence-based assessment, and clinical treatment.
  • 1 year of experience in a youth residential facility or childcare environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic data record keeping systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Able to withstand changing environmental conditions with weather (rain, lightning, extreme heat, and winds).
  • Able to withstand and manipulate through construction areas, sports fields, etc.
  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Must be able to supervise children indoors and outdoors throughout the entire duration of their shift period, which lasts 8 hours or more on a typical shift.
  • Must be able to stay awake/alert, sit, stand, walk, bend, or stoop for extended periods of time and/or the entire duration of the shift, as necessary.
  • Must be prepared and physically able to respond with the appropriate protocol in a variety of dynamic supervision situations with children of 13-17 years in age.
  • In a sudden or emergency, staff must always be physically able to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, and assist evacuating or carrying an adolescent to safety.
