Our mission is to inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning. ![]() ISD 279-Osseo Area Schools is an award-winning school system that inspires and prepares all students with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning. ISD 279 is the fifth-largest school district in the state, serving all or parts of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Corcoran, Dayton, Hassan, Maple Grove, Osseo, and Plymouth. The district serves more than 21,000 students, early childhood through grade 12, in 17 elementary schools (PreK-6), four junior highs (7-9), three senior highs (10-12), an area learning center, two early childhood centers, two special program sites, and an adult education/enrollment center. Community education classes serve lifelong learners from birth through senior citizens. The district is known for excellence in areas ranging from arts and academics to sports and finance. For the second consecutive year, ISD 279 was named one of the nation’s 100 “Best Communities for Music Education.” All four magnet schools were honored by Magnet Schools of America as 2010 Schools of Excellence or Schools of Distinction. Rush Creek Elementary is an NCLB Blue Ribbon School. The district’s careful stewardship of taxpayer funds has been recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education and the Association of School Business Officials International. Staff members have earned local, statewide and national recognition for excellence and leadership in the field. Recent staff honors include national Google Certified Teacher, a recipient of the Innovation in Teaching Award by the Minnesota High Tech Association, Minnesota VFW Teacher of the Year, and TIES Exceptional Teachers. ISD 279 employs four of the 35 community educators nationwide that have achieved their profession’s highest recognition as National Community Education Association Fellows. It’s for the ones you leave behind.” Life insurance is an important part of your financial security, especially if others depend on you for support. Even if you’re single, your beneficiary can use your life insurance to pay off your debts and other final expenses. ISD #279 - Osseo Area Schools provides for you at no cost:
For employees who are eligible to purchase additional life insurance with AD&D, called "Supplemental Life" insurance, refer to the age and rate chart on page 20 of the Benefits Booklet for 2009-2010. *Refer to your “Terms and Conditions of Employment” for the amount of Basic and AD&D Life Insurance the District provides. Flex/VEBA The Flexible Spending Plan offered by the District provides you with a way to save money on your costs for health and/or dependent care expenses. It is classified as a "Cafeteria Plan" for federal income tax purposes. Employee groups eligible to participate are listed in the ISD 279 Osseo Area Schools Benefits Booklet. YOU MUST RE-ENROLL PRIOR TO EACH PLAN YEAR FOR THE DEPENDENT CARE AND HEALTH CARE REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNTS. Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association (VEBA) The Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) offered by the District provides you with a way to save money on your costs for health care expenses. All HRA/VEBA plans must meet IRS notices and rulings. You are automatically enrolled in the HRA/VEBA plan if you are enrolled in the group $1000 Deductible Plan. District dollars are contributed to the VEBA Trust through the semi-monthly payroll process. The amount contributed is specific to each employee’s terms and conditions of employment. If you participate in the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for health care, expenses submitted are first processed under FSA. Once your FSA is exhausted (if enrolled), you are reimbursed up to the dollar amount of the claim or to the maximum amount of money on deposit. If your claim exceeds the amount that your employer has contributed to date, Corporate Health Systems will automatically continue to reimburse you as deposits are received until the claim has been paid in full. Reimbursement Information Reimbursements are directly deposited or checks are mailed every Wednesday for claims submitted before 4:30 pm the previous Wednesday. If the reimbursement distribution date conflicts with a holiday, your reimbursement will be mailed the next working day Retirement The success of any journey depends on preparation: a plan that's focused and mapped out in advance with provisions and navigational tools to keep you on pace. If you were to retire tomorrow, what would you want to do? How and where would you like to live? How much income would you need to maintain your standard of living? The amount of retirement income you need, of course, is a personal thing. There is no "magic" amount that is right for everyone. We all try to plan for the future and look forward to a time when we can retire with a comfortable retirement income. However, determining what you need to accomplish that goal is often a difficult and frustrating exercise.
