Position Description

ENTRY SALARY: $40,805.96
OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Under general direction, the Code Enforcement Inspector performs demanding, difficult, professional, and technical work to enforce codes, ordinances, and regulations in connection with the City's Code of Ordinances and Community Development Code.
 
 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Schedules, performs, and completes inspections of private property, limited public areas; coordinates reviews to determine if there are any violations of city ordinances.
  • Evaluates properties for compliance with codes, regulations and standards; identifies areas of noncompliance, communicates with owners or agents, posts legal notices; handles concerned or irate owners with care, tact, and professionalism.
  • Identifies and enforces codes and violation remedies; initiates and processes code cases through various software applications; manages and handles large quantities of photos, evidence, and information; creates and issues legal notices.
  • Prepares necessary documentation to present to the Local Ordinance Violation Court, Special Magistrate, and Municipal Code Enforcement Board; compiles checklists and packet materials for submission and review; extracts data from various sources to prepare multi-slide presentation of code violation cases and hearings.
  • Researches and investigates information related to cases and notification preparation; tracks and coordinates information to ensure accuracy and professional enforcement protocols are followed; consistently updates materials, software and other technical mediums.
  • Participates in mandatory meetings; attends hearings, staff meetings, and departmental meetings to discuss code enforcement activities.
  • Communicates and engages with the public, other city departments, and other entities; returns phone calls, coordinates meetings, and participates with various other programs as needed.
  • Attends neighborhood/homeowner associations meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications


Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
 
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, High School Equivalency or G.E.D. Certificate AND two (2) years of experience in code enforcement, investigations, or other relevant governmental work; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
